The SJ Bridge Driver/ Supervisor I le ta daily work crew of program participants performing litter abatement and beautification work for the City of San Jose under the SJ Bridge contract.The Driver/Supervisor transportsthe crew and equipment in the program van with trailer, directs andcoachesparticipants on site, keeps the crew safe, and documents the day’s work accurately.This is a hands-on field role: the Driver/Supervisor works alongside participants, most of whom are experiencing homelessness and building or rebuilding work skills andpartnerscloselywith the SJ Bridge case management team to support each participant’sprogresstoward stable employment. Key Responsibilities Crew Leadership and Participant Support Direct the daily operations of an assigned SJ Bridge work crew, task instruction, pacing, and qualityof work Coach participants on workplace expectations such as attendance, communication, teamwork, and following instructions, using a strengths-based, trauma-informed approach. Model professional conduct and de‑escalate conflict on site calmly and safely. Track participant attendance, performance, and progress daily; share observations and concerns promptly with the SJ Bridge case management team so participants receive timely support. Work cooperatively with participants, City of San Jose Staff, partner agencies, and members of the public encountered in the field. Transportation and Vehicle Safelyoperatethe program passenger van with attached utility trailer to transport crew, tools, and collected materials; load, secure, and unload the trailer. Conduct pre‑trip and post‑trip vehicle and trailer inspections;maintainfuel, mileage, and maintenance logs; report vehicle issuesimmediately. Safety Ensure every crewmemberears required PPE (safety vest, gloves) anduseslitter sticks and other tools correctly at all times. Conduct a brief safety talk at the start of each shift and enforce all Goodwill and City safety procedureson every site, including traffic and heat safety. Recognize and respond to hazardous materials, sharps, and illegal dumping; do not allow crew to handlethem, andreportthem through the City’s designated process. Report all accidents, injuries, and near misses to a managerimmediatelyand complete required incident documentation. Documentation and Equipment Complete daily work logs recording sites served, litter and material quantities collected, and activities preformed, as required by the City of San Jose SJ Bridge contract; contribute to weekly reports to the City. Maintain inventory tools, PPE, and supplies; complete inventory and equipment maintenance records; request replacements before shortages affect the crew. Perform other duties as assigned in the support of the SJ Bridge program. Responsibilities may be added,deletedor changed at any time at the discretion of management, formally or informally either orally or in writing. Qualifications High School diploma or GED Two or more years of experience leading or supervisorworkcrew, team, or group, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Military leadership experience or post-secondary education in social work, human services, or criminal justice, may substitute for a portion of the required experience. Valid California Class C driver’s license, a clean driving record, and the ability to be insured under Goodwill’s vehiclepolicy;must enroll in the DMV Employer Pull Notice program. Experience driving a full-size van and towing, backing, and securing a loaded utility trailer. Ability to lead adults with limited work history and to communicate clearly and in writing, with participants, coworkers, Citystaffand the public. Basic computerskillssufficientto complete daily logs, timesheets, and reports. Ability to work independently in the field with minimal supervision and to make sound judgements in unusual or stressful situations. Successfulcompletion of a background check consistent with Goodwillpoliciyand City of San Jose contract requirements. Preferred Qualifications & Experience Experience with litter abatement, landscaping, public works, or similar field crews. Experience working with peopleexpericinghomelessness, justice involvement, or other barriers to employment. Bilingual English/Spanish Current FirstAiid/CPR Certification and Narcan administration training, or willingness to obtain within90 daysof hire. Equipment Used 8-Passenger program van with utility trailer Litter sticks, grabbers, rakes, shovels,broomsand hand tools Safety vests, gloves, garbage bags, and other PPE Smartphone or tablet for daily logs and photos Working Conditions Work is performedalmost entirelyoutdoors on public streets,creeksencampment areas, and City properties, in all weather conditions withoccasionaloffice or classroom time. Regular contract with the public, business owners, City staff, and partner agencies. Typicalscheduleis a 40-hour week. Occasional schedule changes may berequiredtomeet withCity needs. Physical & Emotional Effort Frequent standing, walking on uneven ground, bending, kneeling, reaching forward and overhead, pushing, and pulling throughout the workday. Regularly lift and carry up to 30 pounds (full litter bags and tools); occasionally lift heavier items withassistancewhen loading the trailer. Ability to drive for extended periods and to safely enter and exit the vehiclerepeatedly. Theenvironmentis occasionallyhectic;deadlines can be short, and the role requires steady, calm leadership. #J-18808-Ljbffr
