Physicians provide a comprehensive range of primary and specialty care services at the 333-bed hospital and outpatient facilities both on and off of the Eskenazi Health downtown campus including at a network of Eskenazi Health Center sites located throughout Indianapolis.Job Role Summary: The Medical Transport Team Leader provides leadership and support to the medical transport team under the direction of the supervisor.Essential Functions and Responsibilities:Performs dispatch for the Medical Transport DepartmentLe and supports the Medical Transport staffAssists with coordinating staff schedulesAssists supervisor and manager with new hire orientation.Assists in conducting interviews and scheduling peer interviews for potential new hiresAssists and coordinates with manager on hiring, probationary periods and performance reviewsOversees the cleaning and maintenance of equipment (i.e. wheelchairs and stretchers)Submits monthly reports as directed by the managerTrouble shoots the Epic systemPerforms all essential job functions of a transport aide and/or EMT when necessaryAssists with the activities and educational/clinical experiences of assigned observers and studentsParticipates actively in continuing education and medical audit programsDemonstrates excellent communication skillsReport to the scene of automobile accidents when our department's vehicles are involvedOversees wheelchair inventory and roundupsJob Requirements:High School Diploma or equivalentMinimum of 2 years as a dispatcher for the department.Indiana Certification as an Emergency Medical Technician-Ambulance desired but not required.Current Indiana Driver's license with motor vehicle record that meets Eskenazi Health's driving policy standardsCurrent Indiana motor vehicle insuranceAHA CPR CertificationEVOC certification with 6 months of hireKnowledge, Skills & Abilities:Must have specific knowledge of practical skills, theory and medical terminology related to basic and some advanced emergency medical carePrinciples of human growth and developmentAge-appropriate care (i.e. neo-natal, pediatric, adolescent, adult, geriatric)Must be able to work effectively under emergency conditions and stressDrive an emergency vehicle under emergency conditionsCoordinate emergency care with paramedicsProficiently use and maintain basic and some advanced life support equipment and suppliesLift up to 35 lbs individually and 175 lbs with a partnerCarry a stair chair 30 yards, up two flights of stairs, then down two flights of stairs with a patient attachedCarry tech box, oxygen equip. bag and ECG monitor up two flights of stairsKneel, stoop and crouch for extended periods of time, including kneeling long enough to perform two hundred chest compressions in 2 minutesInteract in a calm, effective and courteous manner with patients, public, and hospital staffFollow detailed or general instructions, verbal and written legibly, accurately, and confidentially use and record dataNormal use of limbs, eyes, ears and voice required to treat patients and to operate sophisticated electronic devicesExcellent verbal communication skillsHigh level of medical psychomotor skills and cognitive knowledgeHigh degree of accuracy in performance of dutiesSatisfactory driving and previous work recordCompetent in Microsoft Office, Epic, and dispatch proceduresExcellent judgment and ability to prioritized and handle multiple requests calmly and effectivelyBasic English reading and writing skills; bilingual is desired but not requiredKnowledge of hospital layout and procedures; some knowledge of equipment handlingAbility to use age-appropriate communication skillsGood reasoning abilityDetail orientedKnowledge of hospital policies and proceduresPromptness, empathy and genuine interest as perceived by patients, co-workers and staffAbility to assess patient needs during transportSkill in patient transport techniques and safe use of vehicleMust be able to follow written/verbal instructionsAccredited by The Joint Commission and named as one of Indiana's best employers by Forbes magazine for two consecutive years and the top hospital in the state for community benefit by the Lown Institute, Eskenazi Health's programs have received national recognition while also offering new health care opportunities to the local community.
