IT AnalystThe City of Virginia Beach is seeking a knowledgeable and customer-focused IT Analyst to support the planning, maintenance, and optimization of technology solutions that enable efficient city operations and high-quality public services. This role provides technical expertise, system support, and analytical insight to ensure city departments can effectively use technology to meet operational and community needs.The ideal candidate is a problem solver who thrives in a public-service environment, communicates clearly with diverse stakeholders, and is committed to supporting the city's mission through reliable and innovative IT solutions.Responsibilities:Provide technical support, troubleshooting, and issue resolution for city systems, applications, and end-user technologies.Analyze system performance, identify improvement opportunities, and recommend enhancements aligned with city standards.Assist with the configuration, deployment, and maintenance of hardware, software, and enterprise applications.Support system upgrades, patches, and integrations in coordination with IT teams and vendors.Document system configurations, procedures, and technical workflows in accordance with city guidelines.Monitor system availability, security, and performance to ensure reliable service delivery.Collaborate with city departments to understand operational needs and translate them into technical requirements.Assist with data analysis, reporting, and information management tasks.Participate in IT projects, including planning, testing, implementation, and user training.Ensure compliance with municipal policies, cybersecurity standards, and state regulationsRequirements:Must be a US citizen.Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field; OR 4 or more years of relevant experience in lieu of a degree.2–5+ years of experience in IT support, systems administration, or technical analysis.Strong understanding of hardware, software, networking fundamentals, and enterprise applications.Experience troubleshooting technical issues and supporting end users.Ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.Familiarity with IT service management principles and ticketing systems.Commitment to customer service and public-sector values.Successful background and drug screening check.Preferred Requirements:Experience working in local government or public-sector IT environments.Knowledge of municipal systems such as ERP platforms, permitting systems, asset management tools, or public safety applications.Experience with Microsoft technologies, cloud platforms, virtualization, or cybersecurity tools.Certifications such as CompTIA A+, Network+, Security+, ITIL, Microsoft, or similar.Experience supporting modernization, cloud migration, or digital transformation initiatives.Core Competencies:Technical Problem SolvingCustomer Service and Public-Service OrientationCommunication and CollaborationAnalytical ThinkingAdaptability and Continuous ImprovementEthical Conduct and AccountabilityThe work environment characteristics and physical demands described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
